New York on a Leica III

Here are a few images from a couple rolls of black and white film I put through my 1934 Leica III, with the classic collapsible Elmar 50mm – f/3.5 lens, during a three-day visit to New York City in March 2018. Ilford HP5 400 and Kodak Tri-X 400TX were the types of film used.

Shooting with a Leica III and black and white film

I recently put a roll of 400 T-Max Kodak black and white negative film through a 1934 Leica III and developed the film personally. It’s the first roll of film I’ve developed myself in around 15 years. The resulting images aren’t bad for an 83-year-old camera, wielded by a photog who hasn’t shot or developed […]

Calgary Foothills FC – First Season Photos

Calgary Foothills FC recently completed their inaugural season in the Premier Development League – the third-tier of North American soccer. They finished mid-table in their division. The club is the latest attempt in Calgary to build and maintain a high-level footballing presence in the city – all past attempts have eventually puttered out and failed. But those involved at […]

FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015

Here are some of my images from this summer’s 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup that was held in Canada. I was fortunate enough to attend most of the matches in Edmonton this past June and July.

I used my recently purchased Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 Sport lens mounted on a Nikon D7000 for the entire World Cup. The Sigma lens is a nice piece of equipment – solid and with a decent range of focal length that can hold f/2.8 all the way through.

Farewell to the Herald

Farewell to the Herald from Stuart Gradon on Vimeo. After 10 years, today is my final shift at the Calgary Herald. I’m leaving to take a full-time web design course. Not an easy decision, but the right one – with the future in mind. Working for the Herald has afforded me a front row seat […]

Recent work – mostly work photos

A stargazing self-portrait at Lake Okanagan in British Columbia Sunday, June 2, 2013. Here are a few single images from the last few weeks. All are for work – except one. The stargazing, with hands-on-hips, self-portrait (above) was taken during a recent four day getaway and was my first ever attempt at capturing the night’s […]

NHL returns – Calgary Flames vs San Jose Sharks

The NHL is back. And so is the Calgary Flames’ pre-lockout form, […]
